just bought a 69 falcon, need some help
I just picked up a 69 ford falcon today. It has been sitting for 20 years, and the guy claimed it ran great when he parked it there. It has a 170 c/i straight 6 which is actualy somewhat clean. I have an idea of what i need to do befor i try and start it, but i wanted to see what you guys thought.

Sitting for 20 years!!!!....
Drain the gas for sure... I am guessing you will need to check the gas tank to make sure it is OK, pull the plugs and pour some oil in the plug hole and turn it by hand using the crank pulley bolt.. But I am thinking the pistons will be rusted to the block walls and it will never be right.
But, if it has been sitting for that long... I would suggest buy a used 200CI motor, it is exactly the same size and a little more power, or buy some new motor mounts and bell housing and buy a used 302 V8 to put in there...
I have owed 4 64/65 Falcons over the years, I have always loved those cars...

A car just sitting with out being started up from time to time is one of the worst possible things you can do to a car.

I wouldn't even try to start it, I'd yank the engine and give it a look over. Chances are there is some minor rebuilding that needs to be done, like a quick cylinder hone, new rings, probably new gaskets, etc. Should all be cheap nickel and dime stuff. If it ran then, it should run now as long as you look it over and check for rust, seizing, deteriorated fuel lines, gaskets, plug wires, etc. Obviously new fuel filter, drain the tank, clean/check out the oil pan, stuff like that. Sounds like a cool car though.

marvel the cylinders, see if it will spin over. put a few gallons of av gas in the tank, dump some down the carb throat and see what happens.

Worked on it today, took the carb. off and cleaned it w/carb cleaner and changed oil/filter. Hooked it up to a jump box just to se if it would turn over at all and got nothing. No power at all, nothing electronic worked in the car.
