Because overseas where they have much harsher winters than we do here, they help to keep the lights clear so you can see.

 

My Audi has headlight sprayers that pop out of the bumpers and blast the headlights with washer fluid

 

I'm from Michigan... I know snow. I've never seen snow so bad that you needed wipers to clear the headlights. And if they're that frozen, wipers aren't going to do shit anyways. I just think they're silly. I was hoping this thread might enlighten me a little bit on the damn things though! haha

 

I never really understood it either, but that was the explanation I was given by someone. I do think my headlight washers are neat though

Its not really because it rains more. The roads there are alot darker. Not as many lighted roads like we have. Plus there isnt as many rest stops along the way so as a safety feature wipers or just washers were installed so that ICE, dirt, snow, and mud could be wiped away for safer night driving.

 

I think they're mandatory in some (all?) European countries for whatever stupid reason. Some manufacturers just don't bother to take them off of their US market cars.
