I started off with a busted ass 93ish ford ranger. Paid 400 bucks for it just to abuse it while i learned. Such an easy truck to drive!

I learned on a 74 Dodge Dart with a 3spd column shifter, a Miata would be the easiest car in the world to learn on.

I bought my first manual car at 18 without knowing how to drive it. Moms had to test drive it while I sat in the passenger seat. Asked mom to teach me that night in her while the mine was being processed and she refused. Said she didn't have the patience and just handed me the keys to her 81 corolla. Took me thirty minutes to back it UP the driveway to the street. Everything was cake after the driveway and I drove that night for two hours.
Have since taught my son, daughter and friend in 30 minutes by just teaching them to hold the car still on an incline with the clutch and accelerator. Everthing after that is easy.

i learned on my dads 90 something corolla and my moms 80 something accord. i learned in parking lots and graveyards. i would suggest finding an old miata or mx-5 and learning on that. park on a hill headed up. you will learn quick this way.
