my '92 volvo 240GL just failed inspection because of wiper blades, headlamp assembly, R/F Lamp Assembly (Turn Signal), Taglights, and rack boots. im trying to get a new car for college so im ideally trying to get rid of this one. i was wondering the approx. price to fix all that stuff (the guy at Auto Pro estimated around $850) which seemed really high, and there is little use in paying for it besides just to make it sell. suggestions?
Drop the price on it $850. Because if you become just another one of those assholes that sells the car saying it's perfect and a week later it turns out you're a douche.. there will be hell to pay.

ha ha, im not saying i will cheat you out of a car. but people sell cars w/o motors. i think i can sell this, its still driveable. plus the giant pink rejection sticker kinda gives it away.

thats in "fair" condition too
you got absolutely screwed. as a 'former' virginia state inspector, i can honestly say that you got the proverbial 'pos tax' imposed on your estimate. what happened is that the guy really didn't want to work on your car (most likely because he's not familiar with volvos) so he just came up with a bunch of crap that's wrong with it and just tacked up the total to a price he knew no one would pay so he could send it on down the street. (who the fuck hits on rack boots???) your best bet is to peel that damn rejection off and try again somewhere else. ask around, maybe someone on here knows a more 'hospitable' state inspector who may overlook some of the minor details. and what's wrong with your lights, are the actual lenses broken? i seriously hope this guy didn't quote you prices on assemblies and lenses if all it needs is a bulb. if so, call the state police and have that guy's ass.
Any gas station in portsmouth that does inspections should pass it without even asking what kind of car it is. They just handed me the sticker and told me to fill out the info on the back.
