http://www.urbanracer.com/articles/a....asp?a=994&z=6 <- For pics of a setup using a Ford 9" axle in the front. If you look at the interior shot, you can see how the power is transferred from the engine, back down to a driveshaft and back up front to the 'rear' end.

Any of the 'fast' FWD drag cars are running Ford 9" rear ends in the front of their cars. It's a longitudinally mounted engine, with a transfer case to shoot the power back up to the front. Like a 4x4 truck, minus the rear axle.
