HELLO CNU,
I checked my email today and noticed two oddly juxtaposed emails. One said "Happy Earth Day" and the other was an announcement for the 3rd anual CNU motorsports car show. Mesages from two different worlds. I find it hard to imagine how people can be proud of modifying their vehicles for better performance at the expense of local ecosystems. Driving fast burns more fuel. Paints create runoff that pollutes our waterways and also produce dangerous fumes that pollute our air. The plastic and fiberglass have harmful by-products as well especially when they end up in a landfill.
This is just another example of the eco-Ignorance that plagues too many of earth's residents. You are so caught up in the perceived glitz and glamour of your shiny special status symbols that you don't even once ask yourself if what you are doing might be harming the planet. Right, but what do you care? Not your problem? Your hobby is a symbol of detached thoughless consumer impulses that ignore important questions about the relationship between everyday actions and the health of our home. People like you are ruining it for the rest of us.
I urge all CNU students with an ounce of compassion, for the world of our
children, to boycott this event.
Fast and Furiously,
Kelly G

I replied:
Kelly,
Sorry about your issues with our car show. Your lack of proffessionalism and otherwise sensibility have left me with no compassion for your complaint. We are a club that provides an outlet for people's expression through motorsports. We are not unaware of the environment or the effects cars can have. One the biggest market shares in automobiles right now is with energy cell research and fuel alternatives. Most of the import cars that attend our car shows are already considered Low Emmissions Vehicles by their manufacturers.
You say we are "a symbol of detached thoughtless consumer
impulses that ignore important questions about the relationship between
everyday actions and the health of our home. People like you are ruining it
for the rest of us."
-I'm sorry you feel that way, not once have you approached our organization with these problems or talked to any member of our club or attended a meeting. I believe this groups you as part of the detached thoughtless environmentalists that attack people and organizations they have no real knowledge of on public forums for fear of discussing things in a civil personable manner face to face.
You talk of a compassion for the world, and its future children. We are the world's children as well, We have a love of automobiles, who are you to tell us we are wrong?
I urge all to come to our show, meet us, and form their own opinion not based on liberal bias and stereotypical judgement.
Sincerely,
Brian Smith
CNU Motorsports President
