I live in Norfolk. I own a 95 caprice with the lt1 engine. I plan to get the engine rebuilt soon. One shop has quoted me 1750 for a rebuild. That's not bad, I was wondering if any of you guys knew of any shops that were cheaper.

Ah i c....try magnum machine shop good guys and they specialize in v8's

did both of my buddies vette engines for a good price

Is it just a tired engine or is it knocking/smoking etc?

The engine is solid but it's an old cop car so, it was exposed to some abuse. I wanted to upgrade a few things during the rebuild like a cam and forged pistons. I plan to keep this car as long as possbile.

i can definately rebuild it at my shop...the 1750 price tag you were quoted is fairly cheap...

was that with them buying all the new parts? or was that just labor...

1750 was the labor. They said the part would be about 300 buck. The shop was 1001 engines and transmissions. They're pretty good. I agree with you there quote is fair compared to other places.

you obviously are not doing a full rebuild..

cam bearings
rod bearings
main bearings
oil pump
oil pan gasket
timing chain
timing chain cover gasket
water pump gaskets
head gaskets
intake gaskets
exhaust gaskets
and you wanted upgraded pistons and cam? that alone will be 300 with el cheapo stuff...

if you decide to go with them make sure you get what you want...
