Default Detailers, Bodyworkers, and Painters ???????

Well, I recently acquired a 240sx. This nissan had recently been painted a beautiful prowler orange and the guy that painted it did an almost flawless job. Basically it looks extremely good. Well on the day i was moving out of the dorms i had went up to take a load out of my room. I had the car in the lot in the middle of the day for 5 minutes and somebody keyed the hell out of my rear quarter panel. I was pissed. I was wondering what i can do to fix that. The scratch is below the paint. I was thinking fill it in and put a whole layer of clearcoat over the car. I was curious what my other options are and who and how much this would run me.

Thanks in advance.

Spark notes- Car got keyed (deep), need fixed, how, how much, and who?

If the paint is that fresh, and it's a stock color from a production car, you should be able to get that one panel resprayed and be fine. If you have clearcoat already, it may complicate things. If it's just paint, you may be able to fill it and color sand it and it should match the rest of the paint. Metallics are a little tough to get right while colorsanding I think, that's what I remember hearing..

Yeah, wet sand the paint, just enough to blend it with the rest of the paint and get rid of any imperfections. Very fine paper, lots of water, gentle touch.. A lot of people color sand after the paint is dry on a complete paint job to get the paint really level and smooth, then hit it with rubbing compound and a buffer..
The point here is to blend the fill job in with the rest of the surrounding paint. That's the cheap way to do it, and results may vary depending on type of paint, i.e. metallics, pearls, flip, etc..

talk to the guy who painted it: you might be able to get some bucks knocked off the price to repair if he feels bad.

I run a detail shop. If it is through the paint, you will have to repaint. You can try wet sanding and buffing it back up with a high speed wheel, I could hide the scratch, but no way to get rid of it.
