Default Car is Totaled need advise

Yesterday I was rear ended in VA Beach and the car is totaled. I was at a dead stop in traffic and was hit by a 2006 ford Taurus doin 50 miles and hour.
Cops came got all the insurence and stuff and have been to the hospital. My passenger and I both sustained back sprains and I sprained my wrists. I need to get My car appraised because it had over 20,000 invested and I want to get alot back. I have had a friend in this situation with a 2000 si and he got 31,000 after it was all said and done.

My car is a 1999 Honda civic EX on boost
I need advise about how to go about this.
I need to know of any appraisers.
I need to know if anyone else has been in this situation and what did you do and what was your outcome.

Thx

well i havent been in the situation but there are some appraisers in the area and if you have your recepts or a list of the mods done with the price of all things it shouldnt be a problem to come up with the value of the car after all is said and done. your insurance and the dumbass' insurance will aprraise the car and then when that is done you get a 3rd appriser to come look at it and tell you the value as well. sorry to hear about your luck there but here is an appraiser in the area i know of....they are in norfolk. Good luck

Could we see pics? it might not be that bad, Ive fixed some pretty fubar'd stuff at work. Hondas are pretty easy to fix in the rear, rails are cheap.

i would think the insurance company wouldve wanted to know beforehand if its worth 5-10 times the value of a regular civic that they probably valued it at and your insurance payments were for.

i'm like 90% sure ..but i thought only your own insurance company can total your car. and the opposing parties insurance always has to fix, unless you dont want it done. but yea, you're going to have to get a 3rd party appraiser to give an estimate for your car, along with the add on's.
