Buying a used SUV next, what are your thoughts.
I have decided that my next vehicle will be a used or maybe new midsize/large SUV or crossover SUV.
My requirements are:
Reliable
Good crash rating
It must be able to tow about 4,000 to 4,500 lbs
Decent interior
Decent amount of amenities
Something my wife wont be embarassed to drive
Prefer 4x4 or AWD
Cost no more then $25-30k
Newer 04+
I was thinking about the usual Exlporer, 06+ tahoe, and Pathfinder.
I'm not asking for anyone to tell me what I should buy, I want to know what are some good SUV's out there or give me your experience/expectations/pro's and cons with the SUV's ya'll own. And what to look for when buying that specific SUV (i already know what to look for when buying a used car).

With the towing requirement I would stay away from mid-size.............
NOT telling you what to buy............but; with the 4x4 requirement have you thought about full size pickups? Super or quad cabs? Great alternatives to overpriced SUV's........with more storage space. Just thought I'd mention it as I'm assuming the need for a third row isn't there since you mentioned mid-size.........

Not sure exactly since I never owned one, but I think a Jeep Commander might fit the bill. It matches your physical requirements, doesnt look to shabby aesthetically, and with the Hemi engine option and rugged transmission youd never have to worry about pulling issues.

I havent really looked into a super or quad cab pick-up, but it is something I'll consider. The Expedition is def a SUV I'm looking at, I love the Excursion but I think that might be over doing it. I havent even thought about the Commando, I will look into that for sure, it isnt bad looking at all and I'm sure the 5.7l hemi will do what I'm asking. Someone suggested the srt8 jeep but I dont think I want something that ballsy because I'll end up modding it, but if i could get one for about 24k I'll probably hope in it.
What does everyone think about the Saab 9-7x with the 5.3 v8?
Its a very handsome suv and has the room and towing power I need. And if all else fails the LS2 Aero model can get the work done!
Anyone have any experience with a 07 VW touareg tdi v10?

Obligatory biased links: (X5 4.4i)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SPORT...item4153571763
The 3.0i won't do the towing you want, and the 4.6iS and 4.8iS I'm seeing are either above the price range or too high on miles (meaning, an expensive 100k refresh is not far away)
