Buying & Transporting a vehicle from out of state?
I was curious what the rule, if any, was there pertaining to transporting a vehicle you have purchased out of state, back to where you live. Obviously if you buy from a private seller you can see if they will let you drive the vehicle on their tags. Or possibly take tags with you that still have valid registration stickers on them, although I'm pretty sure thats illegal.
But what do you do, besides using a trailer to transport the vehicle. I thought at one time you could get a day pass or something from the DMV that would allow you to move the vehicle without license plates. Maybe thats just for moving a vehicle inside of VA. But what about the states you have to drive through in order to even get back into VA.
Maybe there isn't any other way besides trailering it. Could someone elaborate for me?

Just drive it tagless, most states give you a 24-48hr window from purchase to transport it until you get tags. Keep your bill of sale and title with you, if you were to even get pulled over most cops will let you go if you have those 2 things.

Its good for 3 days from the date of purchase to get you from where you buy it to your home. It doesn't allow you to drive it anywhere but to your home, so don't think its a temporary tag.
When I bought my current ITR I just took the plates with me I was going to use and put them on. Wasn't the smart thing to do, but I didn't get pulled.

Legally correct:
Follow the instructions on this page to buy a trip permit for $5 and then print it out:

Maybe this isn't the most help, but I drove my current car with out of state temp tags for 2 months until the VA plates arrived.

you goto the DMV, you tell them ur buying a car from out of state and need to drive it back, DMV gives you a tag that allows you to do so.
or if you have balls, take your license plates from your car, and put them on the new car, don't drive like a retard on the way back.
