Bought a utility trailer, does it need insurance?
Like the title states I recently bought and registered a 5x8 utility trailer for private use.
When I was registering the trailer the title asked if I had insurance on it or not.... does this really matter with such a small trailer for private use? do i need to go get insurance coverage on it or does dmv not follow up on this?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

from what i know anything that is registered and tags needs insurance...my trailer is but its also 28 foot...not sure about a little 5x8 but it prolly does...
call your insurance company and ask. primarily, you should ask questions like "if i get in an accident with my trailer does my regular coverage cover it. what if it flies off?" stuff like that. if they offer it, you should get it. CYA, ya know? im pretty sure insurance for a trailer is next to nothing for a year. u never know what might happen.
For me (statefarm) said that they cover whatever the vehicle is pulling. You only pay for trailer tags once (utility - private use). FYI my trailer is 5x12 single axle.
My father has allstate and when we tow anything with his truck it is coverd on the policy, like trailers, and what ever is on the trailer as well. I don't know if he had to pay any extra but I don't think so.
