Anyone ever tried to get a lost title in VA...
I recently purchased a vehicle that does not have a title and has not been driven for 2 years or so. The vehicle was wrecked and towed to a garage, the garage has since closed down and been at the garage owner's house for a year and a half. Supposedly the garage owner who I purchased from put a mechanics lien on the car. I have a bill of sale and I have the car. Does anyone know what I need to do to get a new title for the car?
Thanks for any input i just really want to get this thing on the road, if I can't I'll just trailer it to auto-x's and VIR...

Take the bill of sale to DMV and just tell them you lost the title. They will cut you one. I have had to do this with a car I purchased from a junk yard.
Ive been told that if a mechanic's lien is put on the car, the mechanic has to get the title from the dmv themself. just word of mouth, but im in similar situation myself so, GL i know its a bitch
Yeah, if that doesn't work, try following the procedure for an abandoned vehicle. Give the dmv the vin, pay $8 and send a certified letter to anyone on the title and tell them of your intention to title it. (make sure to keep the reciepts) 30 days later, go back into the DMV, and get the title.
I'm hoping since I have a bill of sale that will make it go smoother but we'll see. I'm going to need to get it drivable first and then worry about all that. My original intent was to just buy the car as a track car and trailer it everywhere but once I got it and realized how good of shape it was in I decided it'd be a shame not to title it and drive it.
Why are you going to put work into a car that you don't know if you'll be able to title? Save yourself wasted time and energy, make sure you can get the title first.
Even if I can't title it, it's still going to make an awesome track car i'll just have to trailer it, i mean i got it for $300 and it easily would have cost me $2000 or more in the condition the body and interior are in. So if i can't title it I'll just save money on insurance and track it every weekend if I can title it then I'll drive it every other day or so and keep the miles off my good car.
