Anyone ever look into modding a Boxster/Cayman?
I've toyed w/ the idea of a high horsepower Boxster S, but reading on the forums these cars are about the most expensive to mod out there. An engine swap on a Boxster costs $30,000+ and gets you a whopping 370-380 crank horsepower w/ a X51 3.8 motor.
A 987 Chassis w/ about 500 crank horsepower would be amazing, but it'd cost you an arm and a leg for a 997 GT3 motor and I don't even know if it fits. (and that's only 415 horse)
It's fun to think about it in concept, but the execution would just be a supreme waste of money. Kind of a bummer seeing how nice the 987 Boxster/Caymans handle/drive.
Oh... and the cars aren't as light as you'd think. A Boxster/Cayman S is just over 3000lbs. My Z06 is 3100 w/ a full tank of gas. Modded and w/ under 1/2 tank it's I've had it at 2995 at the scales at VMP.

I have pondered it, I always thought a Porsche would be fun , but only have thought about in a thought exercise kind of way. I would really love to drive an older one.

I got to drive them all when I worked at Checkered Flag last summer... they're awesme cars, very rewarding to drive. The RS60 Boxster S was my favorite car.... yes even over the 997 Turbo.

They already made a fast Cayman. It's called a 911
But in all seriousness I'd rather buy a 911TT or GT3 than get a Cayman or Boxster and dump that kind of money into it. Just seems kinda pointless to me

Drive them both back to back... the 987 platform is more fun to drive. Plus, I like the boxster style more... sleeker rump vs. the hunchback look the newer 911s have.

I agree with what you're saying about the new look. I'm a fan of the 996 personally.
