Black Koukis aren't all that rare, it was a relatively common color.

Deep Fuschia was by far the rarest, with Silver Moss coming in second place, but not a close second.

There are definitely more than five.

4,887 Koukis were produced overall (3655 in 1997/1232 in 1998).

To get a basic idea of how many black Koukis there are, try and break it down by color.

In 1997, there were 7 colors available (Starfire Blue, Silver Moss, Deep Fuschia, Aspen White, Cobalt Green, Super Black, Ultra Red). If 3,655 were produced in 1997, figure 522 cars in each color. This is obviously not the case, as there are probably fewer than 200 Deep Fuschia cars in existence and thus surely more of the others, but it'll be a conservative estimate.

In 1998, there were only 5 colors available, as Deep Fuschia and Starfire Blue got cut. If you divide 1,232 total cars in 1998 by 5, you get 246 cars in each color. Again, this probably isn't quite right, because there are very few silver moss 1998 cars, and thus more in the other colors, but again, conservative estimate.

Taken together, that gives us 522 black 1997's and 246 black 1998's, for a total of 768 cars.

Now, we could just divide 768/50 to try to get the number of cars in VA, but that probably isn't the best option, because VA has a good-sized population (i.e. more overall car buyers) and is a coastal state generally more inclined to buy imported Japanese sports cars than is, for instance, Wyoming.

According to the 2000 Census, VA had 2.52% of the US population, so 2.52% of 768 comes out to 19 black Koukis in the state of VA. Now, more have probably shown up there over time, particularly in NoVA, and our 768 number is low because of color distributions, so I bet there are like 40+ in the state.

This doesn't account for accident loss though, of course, but that should only be 5-10%.

I'm at work early and bored, lol.
