Any way to register the Panoz for street use? Kit car? Custom car?
I'd love to be able to drive the car around on the weekends, specifically to the local car hangouts on Saturday night.
Is there any way to register one as some kind of custom car or a kit car to where it wouldn't be subject to strict requirements? I figure the car allready has brake lights and tails. It'd be easy to fab up headlights, signals, and a horn, but I'm not even sure that'd be necessary.
I could just use hand signals for turning like the guys on custom choppers to around here and I'd have no desire to drive it at night.
Any ideas or advice?
EDIT: for those that don't know it's a GTRA race car that's not exactly meant for the street. The "headlights" are decals.

^ I plan on it... just seeing if anyone knows anyone who's registered a custom car or kit car that doesn't have a VIN.

Is it insured? That would be my guess as to the first question the DMV will ask. I honestly think you'll have a tough time finding a way to get it legal, but like you said, maybe there is some kit car category or something. No airbags, lights, DOT approved seat belts, no manufacturer crash testing, etc will probably make it tough. I would say Antique status might help, but your car probably doesn't qualify for that

^ that's the issue... people with shelby kit cars have them registered as '60s era vehicles so nothing really applies and they can do whatever.
My car is loosely based on a street Panoz Esperante. S2K Guy, thanks for the law.\
EDIT: It's insured against fire, theft, and damage while in tow to/from the track.

I was thinking more along the lines of liability coverage, since that's what DMV cares about?
Funny thing is, I actually had the opposite issue from yours; I wanted to unregister my track car and the DMV gave me a hell of a time doing that because I told them it would still be garaged in my county. They said they require all vehicles garaged in the county carry a valid registration and insurance (or pay the DMV insurance opt-out) even though I told them it would never be on the streets unless on a trailer. The state of VA has some strange automotive policies.
