Advice?
I'm looking into trading my '94 Honda Prelude in for a '05 Scion tC. The dealership is offering me $2,500 for my Prelude and it has 152,xxx miles on it. The body is in good condition besides one small rust spot and the muffler has a small hole in it which makes it just a little louder than it should be. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this. I'm thinking that $2,500 is worth it because I'd probably only get maybe $3,200 out of it if I tried to sell it outright and Nick (Hybrid AWD) thinks that would be difficult. Also, looking for any comments on the tC itself..I've heard good things about it and I enjoyed driving it, but any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.
Hey
Have you looked at NADA/KBB trade-in/private sale values? Dealerships never give you the full trade-in ammount, but it's a decent gauge of how much you'll get by selling the car yourself.
Also, I've never driven a tC, but when I looked at them I was impressed. Seemed to be a very well put together car for their MSRP.

I say take the 2500 trade-in and do it. I've driven a couple of tC's and I love them. I was going to buy one before I found my current car. With the small rust spot and the rusty exhaust and 150k+ mileage, I wouldn't see you being able to get much, if any, more than that selling it sperately. Trading it in saves the hassle.
I say go for it.
I say go for it.

Blue Book trade in value: $2,095
Blue Book Private sale value: $3,710
However, I'd never get $3,700 out of it. With the muffler making a sound and the tires being old, and the small body damage. Since the dealership is offering me about $400 more than blue book trade in I figured it was a good deal.
