It took a while for aftermarket companies from Japan to make it to the states with their parts. Meanwhile, Steve Millen (Nissans US 300ZX driver) and Jim Wolf decided that they were going to come out with parts of their own. They just about monopolized the market and overpriced their parts.

beautiful cars, and probably one of my favorite interior layouts. little heavy, though. if you're worried about insurance, but still want a 300zxTT, get the 2+2 (2 seats up front, 2 in the back) it should help a little. Engine bay is VERY cramped, and hard to work on.

My suggestion, and i'll probably get flammed for this, but get a 240sx. they're pretty cheap (not so much around here,va beach, since they are pretty popular), and the after market is nice too.

actually, you could probably get a decent condition s13, and do the SR20DET swap into it for just a little more than what a good 300zxTT would cost you.

the cost of a 300zxtt off autotrader is deceiving. most of the cars are 15 years old and have been ragged on so its going to cost a bit just to get them in decent shape, then aftermarket stuff as was mention will cost you twice as much as parts for say a supra or rx7, and it will always be slower and look more dated.

i also have been preaching the gospel that is the 240sx. take the same amount of money you would sink into the 300 and put it in a decent s14 240 and you will have a very potent car that will be easier in terms of maintenance and wont hit you hard when the insurance bill comes in either. also if god forbid you wreck, shells and parts are much cheaper than 300's.

just cruising around, the car is fantastic. even at 15 years old with over 100k miles on the clock it was still fast, i wish i still had mine everytime i see one on the street. but given a chance to do it all over again i would have bought a s14 and gone the whole 9 yards with it, or saved up for another year or so for a supra or a used 350z.
