it doesn't work like that, asshole. ok? there are certain things about running a multi-billion dollar industry-leading business that would overrule your stupid ideals on a car "living up to its name". i'm sure when GM's upper level management was holding a conference to discuss future projects, if a demand from one of the executives for the new GNX just HAVING to be a buick from the ground up was brought up, regardless of the additional costs of engineering an entirely new platform-independent car (i'm sure you'd love a fwd gnx) and building new facilities to produce it, etc. etc. I don't want a Buick from the ground up. I want a car that was designed by Buick. If it wants to be on the same platform, more power to 'em.. but let Buick design it. The car in question is a Pontiac down to the headlights. when there's already a good platform that could be transitioned easily Nothing is being transitioned. It's an identical duplicate. PLUS giving the consumer a car reminiscent yet much more capable than the original, he'd get laughed out of the room and fucking fired. let alone what all these additional costs would do to the cost when presented to the consumer. i'm sure there are PLENTY of other reasons GM decided to go this route (if they even go this route) that are beyond all of our comprehension, so just leave the decision-making to the professionals that get paid more than we can imagine and stop your God damned crying. Why name the "new" GTO, which there hasnt been a car named that since, what '71, a GTO?
They're are plenty of names out there. Why bring back names that havnt been used for 20+ years? You can bitch and moan and complain all you want, but the GTO, the GNX, they all have heritage and rebadging Holden cars does not live up to that heritage.

As for the cars performance based on technology. The cars of the '60s and '70s were hindered by lack of technology. The US car makers are going to just keep on putting bigger engines in cars til there 500ci is common place. It's rediculous.

But engine sizes are going downward, not up. There is no car available with a Big Block in it, except for diesel's. I guess you could call a Viper motor a "big block" even thought its a 10 clyinder.
