Id personally go with CAM... as stated above. Jeff is the man when it comes to LS1 tunes.. so you can get more agressive with the cam and the tune will be right on.

WHY??? Because not only was I charged $500, I told DTP that my car was pulling timing like crazy through first and asked them to check it out. They said it must be a problem w/ my car and left it at that. Then I was charged $100 for them to tighten some clamps and for them to RE-place where I referenced my boost only for me to take the car back the next day and put it back to the previous spot where it still sits to this day. Oh then while we're at it, let's talk about the power, I know DTP's dyno reads off, but everyone says it reads higher than the average dyno. I got off the dyno at 5# doing 354 rwhp, okay I thought to myself, maybe my kit just is a little weaker than the next guys. Spent 500 for a computer tune from the company STS sponsors and gained 50rwhp, THEN i took it to Jeff Creech at CAM and gained an additional 15rwhp. That put my car at a grand total of 419rwhp @ 5#.
On to the next point, Dyno racing... I know 65rwhp isn't anything if it's just the dyno making numbers up. If not for an additional few members on this board who ran my car before and after, I can certainly say without a shadow of a doubt the car pulled harder than ever before. Uh oh, I guess now I haven't addressed safety. Anyone can fudge timing or a/f to get some extra horses out of the engine, but then it's not going to be safe. Right now I have an a/f ratio of 11.0 to 1, and I run 8# all day. (That's not true on a daily basis, but I have 0 knock at 8# throughout my range.)
AND ANOTHER THING, I heard from the "incompetant mechanics that shouldn't even be left alone with a car" (yeah, that's about how they put it) that the GTO that DTP did do the install on blew it's engine running at 8# because the boost was never being vented. So, in short, maybe F*ck DTP is a little harsh, but surely, Freak DTP is warranted. IMO.

And I've all ready talked to Jeff at CAM about doing a cam install in my car and he said it's going to be $800 to install the Cam, Springs, and retune*

Just checked out BandLracing.com, and if they are goign to do springs and cam for only 375$ I'd check them out, but I found out the hard way you get what you pay for. Best of Luck!

I think I'm personally going to go 99formulaM6's route and get a couple car friends together and rip that shit apart. hrfbody.com is a great place to find some help.

* I all ready have my car tuned from there, so it would only be $100 anyway.

Yep, by far the best mechanics for LS1's in the area, many years of experience, and have done just about anything you can think of to an LS1.

why do discounts? 99% of the time you only get a B customer at best, generally C customers that are only there cause you are cheaper, not cause you are good.

i never understand some peoples WalMart mentality sometimes....

I've had DTP do all of my tuning aspects on my GTO and they have had the most friendly and easiest customer service of any shop I've dealt with. As far as prices on cam/springs install, it's going to cost a good amount anywhere because it's time consuming and most shops charge $75hr labor. IMO, a cam/spring install is pretty straightforward, especially on a LS motor. My friend and I did my install and even pulled the heads and installed longtubes and did everything from start to finish in about 10-11hrs. If it had been no heads or headers it probably could have been done in 7-8.

We used: www.ls1howto.com to print up everything we needed, they have a specific one for GTO's I used, but this is the one you need for a f-body. 31 pages w/color pictures, helpful hints, and everything from tools needed to torque specs.

I'd recommend if possible you do it yourself, it will save you a lot of money. And you have the benefit of knowing it was done right and the way you want it to.

From there you can take it to get tuned. I use DTP, they do Predator, LS1 edit, and a few others if I remember correctly. Brent and Frank are awesome and you won't be dissapointed.

Nick, you had them tune a NA car, maybe they're great tuning NA'd. Sure, try them out, tell me how it goes. I wouldn't let them pay me to tune there. And that 439/421 is that from their dyno or someone's dyno who isn't "horsepower friendly"?

And nick, that isn't meant as a slam to you, it's awesome you're putting some power behind those wheels, have you got to the track yet?
