Back combing hurts like a mofo from what I've heard. Or you can do the wool cap method. That hurts like a mofo also. Many moons ago I was really big into world religions and one of them was Rastafari. I spoke with hundreds of people and asked about the significance of dreadlocks. It's very interesting stuff

I know dreads stink, i know not to wash hair, I know how to grow dreads, but shes impatient and doesnt wanna take the time to do them right, she wants them back combed in. i think its a bad idea, she wants a whole bunch of small dreads instead of nice thick patiently grown dreads. And she thinks she can take them out when she doesnt want them anymore. Fucking women.....
Protip: dreads only smell if you don't keep them clean... you know, like any other hairstyle.
Just backcombing means she'll just have some nappy ass hair until it gets wet and then it'll untangle itself. The actual locking process takes a really long time and takes a lot of effort to maintain until it starts to lock. And her wanting "small dreads" means it takes even more effort.
So basically: she has no idea what the fuck she is talking about. Tell her so. Then put it in her ass.
PS: I had dreads for several years.

you can do it a couple of ways. Backcombing is kinda painful, and has to keep being done for a long time to get it to lock. You can also get them done by not doing anything with the hair, but those look nappy and gross. There is also some kinda perm you can get, but I couldnt even begin to tell you how it works or where you could get it done.
