Today I get PM'd by a Special Investigator for a "large" insurance carrier. His company insured the 92 hatch that got stolen the same day as my car. He gave me his name and number and wants me to call him to discuss details on my case. His hopes are to establish a pattern to aid in locating the thiefs.

My Q. What is an insurance co. doing with a PI. I thought they only did that sort of thing when the suspected fraud, or if they had some way of jacking prices and screwing people over.

So, would you call the guy and answer his q's? Or does this sound kind of suspect?

 

Never had my car stolen but I have never heard of an insurance company hiring a PI on their behalf! I always thought they had their own people especially if its a big company.

 

I wanna know why a Investigator for an insurance company signed up for DragVA, and the same day PMed you. Sounds fishy to me. I'd PM a moderator and see if they can check them out. I tried to do that earlier for you, but with the site messing up I don't think my PM went through.

They can check out the IP address, e-maill addy and maybe other things. I dunno if they can cross reference the IP address with exsisting members, but they might be able to help somehow.

 

You should ask him who he works for, and call them. The last thing you want is someone pumping you for info for whatever illegitimate reason they have.

 

Sniff Sniff, smells fishy to me, call the agency and the police to see if he is legit.

 

My thoughts too. Like someone else said, ask who he works for. Don't get a number from him, that would be to easy. Get the company name and get your own number.

 

This investigator guy checks out. He's with AIG and is working with the Police to try to stop this rash of thefts. The guy who had the 92 hatch stolen asked to have this investigated. His car was found stripped up in Jersey as well. If anyone would like to get in contact with this investigator and either ask him Q's or give him any info on thefts PM me.
