State Inspection Questions
Exhaust... if the car came with a California spec catalytic conv, does it have to be replaced with the exact same part? If so, why?
Do the inspection stations really check the catalytic converters during the state inspection? If not, and the catalytic converter was gutted, how will the inspection station know? |
Re: State Inspection Questions
they just checked if i had an exhaust
all depends on where you go |
Re: State Inspection Questions
as long as there is a caseing of a converter there they will most likely pass you. They have to remove the converter and look inside to see if its broken/gutted before they can fail you.

Re: State Inspection Questions
They inspect the car for a presence of a converter. If they see one, that is as far as they go. Now if it is questionable, then they will inquire with you(i.e if they see a resonator and no cat)

Re: State Inspection Questions
I just look to see if its under there. I have no way of Knowing if its gutted or not. if you want to bring it to me let me know.

Re: State Inspection Questions
i have seen some inspectors go as far as beating on the cat with a wrench, etc. in order to tell if it was gutted or not.

Re: State Inspection Questions
If it's Cali spec, you should be alright, bearing in mind that CARB laws out there are crazy strict.

Re: State Inspection Questions
