I'm sorry, but that kit is stupid. Just put the damn turbo under the hood.

I agree, I mean it has to be more efficient than running the piping the entire length of the car. But as far as sleeper status...what more could you ask for. Plus looking at the engine bay pic, its alot more apealing and simpler looking without all the mess in the engine bay.

Not a huge polished front mount, that's for sure.

its a sick setup, but id be worried about sucking up water. it dosent seem very logical as a daily, but it probably isnt.

obiviously you two havent read much about the STS turbo kit.

Dave22, the reason people buy the STS kit for their LS1 is because in a 4th gen F-body, there isnt enought room in the engine bay for a turbo without doing some relocating of parts. Mounting completely in the rear isnt my first preference either, but it works.

EF, if you read some of the reviews and tests made with the STS kit, it proves that there is almost the same amount of lag as you would have with a front mount. I dont know the numbers exactly for the amount of lag. You would think theres a lot because of all the piping, but after tests, it proves otherwise.

Overall, this LS1 with the STS kit and a properly retuned PCM, should be making ~500rwhp. I've got a friend with the same kit on his LS1 and he makes 475rwhp.

I know they make power, and I understand why they're where they are, but it just seems like theyd suck up a lot of water...

It dosen't seem logical for a DD. I understand that they make good numbers and that theyre quality parts, but why not relocate the intake piping to a "safer" spot.

Why spend thousands of dollars on a less efficient turbo kit when you can just relocate parts? I don't know much about turbo f-bodies or turbo lsx's, but aren't all of the quicker ones turbo in the engine bay?

we dont know exactly what the difference is in efficiency. But I will conclude that if we compared the power from a front mount LS1 and the STS kit on an LS1, while using the same TO4E 60 trim Garrett on the front mount, the power gains would be reasonably close. Now I have now evidence to prove, i'm speaking completely off of previous knowledge, using the product myself, and assumption.
