hi, I have a 98 contour SVT (v6, 2.5L, dual exhaust) and i need some help. I lost considerable power lately, and according to the ford dealership, i need 3 new catalytic converters. They quoted me $2K+. After doing some research, I found i can get 2 gutted pre cats, 2 MIL eliminators, and a new main cat for about $300-400 shipped for parts. I know nothing about exhaust systems, but am under the impression that gutted pre cats are illegal, but the main cat will not be illegal. I was also told the MIL eliminators on the 2 pre cats will cancel out the CEL, while the main cat will do its job and I can pass state inspection.
With that said, I figure to save about $1K while still being "inspection" legal. Does anyone know of any shops around town that will install gutted pre cats? (the main cat will NOT be gutted, it will be legal)
Also i have access to the auto hobby shop on base if anyone has experience doing this and wants to help. I will pay considerable money for help
