K series swaps
Is there anyone out here who has a swapped 02-up civic hatch? I work with some one who's nephew has an 02 with a jdm rsx type R swap (R or S, whichever is the highest hp). He claims this car is walking Z28's and such which are low 13 sec cars off the showroom floor. I have seen the car run, and it looks quick, but I don't think it's low 13's quick. Has any one taken this swap to a track for some real #'s? I have seen a Motortrend article with a car just like this, professionally built, professional driver, and this car was turbo, and it couldn't break 13.90's? How does this happen?

Re: K series swaps
my friend craig had a JDM K20A in his RSX and pulled a 13.6 on some shitty tires. He had an exhaust and a k-pro tune. If he put the car on some drag radials and someone who could actually drive it took it too the track Craig could have easily dipped into the low 13s.

What does an RSX weigh? And that swap is like what - 260hp at the crank at most. Not saying it couldn't happen, that's just a stretch in my imagination. Again, entirely possible I guess.

<------14.1@101mph stock tires 3-bolt ons
With my trap speed, I should be hitting 13.9, but I got stock tires & wheel hop owns me. I say thats pretty good for a 4 banger N/A

Re: K series swaps
I would say yes, a k20 hatch will destroy a stock z28 in the high end...
I am sure the hatch will spin 1st and probably 2nd without drag radials, but will definately walk a z28 hard core. I would think that an SS would be more of a race for a k20 hatch. The reason being mostly that the K series 6 spd tranny has very short gears.
Also, it depends on the year of the z28, the older being more low end, and the newer having a better high end. I drive a SOHC turbo coupe putting out no more than 175-180whp. A newer body style z28 is not that much faster than me and my gears are very long compared to the K series.

Re: K series swaps
something to add on to this.
Craig(the K20A) RSX and i ran from about a 30 roll and he pulled about a good car or so on me from up top. Granted this was from a roll and not from a stop, but it was still a very quick car.
I ran a 13.4 w/ a 2.0 60 foot(ya...even with AWD ). Now if i could cut a 1.8 or better...which i've been able to do on other passes it would have easily been low 13's. Which, as previously stated is Z28 territory.
so yes, a RSX/Hatch can definately hit the low 13s with a K-series motor and can also give a Z28 a good run, and there are time slips to prove it.
