I'm trying to teach my self, but everyone i talked to told me they learned more in a couple of lessons than they learned in months of doing it themselves

I taught myself.

All with tabs, sounds. Etc. I've been playing for around 3 months, and I'm picking it up well.

Learned dust in the wind tonight. Thats a hella hard song.

Just try to learn the major chords (A-G) then you should be able to pick up songs pretty easily. Look at artists like Jack Johnson or anyone that does alot of acoustic stuff (like Hootie & the Blowfish, cheesy songs but easy to learn), that'll help you get that basics down. Then just build on that. There's not much an instructor can tell you that you won't get from a book (for basics anyway).
