Great Way to Start Your Day...
Not that many people will care, but I think it's a pretty decent story...
So I'm driving back from Richmond yesterday morning, and take my usual exit here in Williamsburg. Get off the ramp and see a state trooper in a charger watching the on ramp for 64. Nothing too unusual there, so I carry on.
A few miles down the road, I come to a complete stop behind a line of traffic. I look ahead and see several fire trucks, two ambulances, and five or six cop cars at the local shell station. Couldn't see any signs of fire, and the emergency crews were begining to leave, so I thought nothing more of it.
As I continue down the road, I begin to be passed by what seemed to be an endless line of police vehicles including city, county, state, and undercover vehicles. After 15 - 20 cops pass me, logically I conclude that some serious shit is going down somewhere close by. I had to find it!
As I arrive at an intersection, I see all of the emergency vehicles entering a small residential area to my right. Naturally, I turned to go check things out... probably a mistake.
When I turn into the neighbourhood, 5 police officers are guarding the street with shotguns. I continue further down the road and notice FBI vehicles patroling the streets. At the end of the neighbourhood, I turn around and make my way back up the street.
As I do this, 5 officers with loaded pistols tactically aproach me and as me to shut of my vehicle. Of course I comply! As soon as my car was off, they rushed me and two officers had their pistols pointed right at my face, only inches away. They asked for my keys, which I had placed on the sunroof, and told me to keep my hands on the dash. They told me that they were going to search my trunk, and proceeded to do so. After the all clear, they began to relax and asked me if I had seen a black man in a blue hoodie anywhere locally. I said no, and they let me continue.
After that little ordeal, I was pretty ready to get the hell out of there! I followed a black FBI ford escape out of the neighbourhood, and made my way home.
I've got to tell you, it was quite a rush starting my day looking down the barrell of a loaded weapon, and the rest of the daywas fairly anti-climactic for me!
I later found out that they were searching for a serial rapist that had been on the loose since 2002. Apparently he had pistol whipped a lady several times at the first gas station that I came across, became involved in a high speed chase, and subsequently ended up in the neighbourhood that I mentioned. He later fired shots at police, escaped on foot, and was caught an hour later.
Cliff notes:
Shit ton of cops flying around town, I decide to investigate.
End up with 5 cops pointing pistols at my head.
Serial rapist finally caught (not me, read the story!)
