I live on westover, in an old building. The rent isn't too bad, you just need to look around. Most of the ones advertised in the newspaper are high priced. Drive or walk around the area, a lot of the places are only advertised at the place being rented. The place I rented had a sign on the door, I wouldn't have known about it if I didn't walk around the area.

I really enjoy that area a lot. It just kinda has a warm feeling to it. Just a great atmosphere and good places to eat. I just can't bring myself to pay as much money as they want for some of those places down there when I know I can get something just as nice in a different city. Ghent is a well established area, so that's never gonna change.

If I were in your shoes (married w/ no kids), I'd do it.

When i was stationed out there, me and my wife lived in Ghent. We loved the area! We had a beautiful 3 bedroom house at the time was only $950 a month. Quiet, and we could walk to almost everywhere we wanted to go. And like Mad DOHC said, close to everything! We lived back off of Azalea Ct. Friends of ours had a nice cozy hardwood floor apt on the corner of Azalea Ct and Hampton. They loved it there. Hope that helps a lil bit. Cant belive I'm about to say this, but I miss VA sometimes. Oh well, San Diego will have to do for now.

LOL!! Yeah, pretty much, was stationed out there from 97 to 03! Owner was really cool and never upped our rent from when we first moved in. Wow, that makes me realize I'm getting old now.

My cousin and his wife rented a place for ~$1300 a month, pretty spacious, 1500ish sq feet, 2 beds, 2 baths.

The area is nice as stated, plenty of nice places to eat, total wine, few bars, etc.

Right now I think we are paying like 1000-1100 (cant remember) a month on a lease at Lafeyette Towers off Granby. 2BR/2Bath Just isnt worth the price especially since they are considering raising the rent. Place was nice at first, but kind of a joke now since the elevators are constantly breaking (we live on 7th floor) and everyday you walk out you find something new stuck to your car. Food, grease, shaving cream, even taco bell one time.

One other person through a pot off the roof and crushed the roof of another residents vehicle. Just ridiculous. We thought about ghent because its not too far from where we are now (which is close to base and her work).
