Fridge repair place??
I have a mini fridge in my garage. Well I recently ripped out the little freezer that was in the right hand corner of the fridge since it was starting to ice over real bad and I could put more beer in the fridge with the freezer out. Now the fridge doesn't get cold, not sure what I fucked up on. Anyone know of any places, preferrably Chesapeake, that can look at this? Thanks
The mini-fridges I've seen all have the cooling coils and thermostat built into the freezer section; they cool the fridge by virtue of this being in the same insulated shell. If you ripped this stuff out, you may have inadvertently either broken the cooling coils or thermostat.
Did you hear dominion is raising electricity rates 18%, effective July 1? One tip to reduce electric costs is to not use old refrigerators as beerdrators as many of us do. New fridges are more energy efficient, and will often pay for themselves in energy savings. Also, it's recommended to never put a fridge in your garage, because it has to work harder through the summer, and safety mechanisms can shut down the compressor in the winter if ambient temperatures are below 42 or so, which won't make much difference to the fridge, but can cause the freezer to defrost. Of course, I'm not one to talk, I've got two old fridges for beerdrators, one of which is in the garage...
Wal-Mart has new mini-fridges for $50 and $80, btw. Won't really help, these mini-fridges just ice up, it's the way they're designed. You have to periodically defrost them. Moving it into the house will help here, too; less hot humid air to condense every time you open the door.
