Yeah the place on S Mil hwy is a joke, I guess thats American Auto Auction. I went there one Friday to see what they had and the cars, as you'd expect, POS after POS. Their "buy it now" line cars are way over priced dealer rejects. The auction fees are ridiculous also. I cant believe they advertise "pay what the dealers pay". More like "pay more than what you'd pay at a dealer."

 

dont know what the other guy is talking about, but tidewater auto auction is a great place. public auctions are every sat. at 10 a.m i believe, their site is twaa.com and it also lists inventory. buyers fees are higher than most auctions but its usuall 100-300 dollars depending on how much the car was. if youre saving 4k at an auction why would that be too much?

I guess that's true on cars that a young person wouldn't be interested in. I've been there at least 3 times, and everytime a decent car was being auctioned off, it went for about what you'd pay on a website like this, plus buyer fees. Maybe I just went on bad days?

 

don't forget that norfolk's city impound also has a public auction but its usually leftovers ... shit that junk dealers and insurance companies don't even bother with

 

im assuming you went to the public one then. i only go to the dealer one, but i assumed that the public ones were just as cheap since the people who run it told me so. cars under 2k usually go for what their worth. i did just pick a car for 1700 that books at about 4k. and a 2006 ford fusion with only 15k miles that books for 14k for 9k. so yeah, i guess the more you spend the more you save. but if your looking for civics, dont hold your breath. they only go for top dollar there.

I went to the police auction that they have every couple of months on London Bridge Road looking to get my first car when I was 16, and got a deal. It was a 1972 Olds Cutlass Supreme w/ candy paint sitting on 20's, paid $1900 for it, turned around and sold it for $ 6k. So i would say they are worth going to if you have a spare Saturday. But yes, they are hit and miss....Oh and the according to the info that came with the car, it was a drug dealers and was confiscated because it was paid for with drug money

 

good thing you sold it before he saw you ridin dirrty in his own car.
