Im lookin to move to Norfolk in like 2 months.. but I dont wanna end up in the shitty side of town.. anyone got any ideas on place to try? I wanna stay close to 264, kinda like the bar/time/mall areas. place needs to be 2-3bedroom and 2+ bath..

Most of the places you're looking at are going to be well over $1000 a month.

That's what I thought when I was looking for a house, but I ended up finding one that I can rent. I'm just not ready to buy a house yet, and if you seen my house you'll never believe what I pay a month for it. Just look around bro, not everyone out there is looking to rip you off. There's alot of people who have houses they bought 10 years ago when it was still affordable, and will rent them out for a decent price. Then there's the assholes that pay 600/month for mortgage, and still want to turn around and rent them for over 1500/month. In my opinion that's not fair, but it makes money.

Exactly. If anyone thinks they'll be living at the place for 3 years+, buy a damn house, in three years you got equity built up (not a whole helluva lot but never-the-less you will) and sell the thing, or if you want a bigger place, guess what? Instead of paying the rapist, become the rapist by renting out your place. Then in time you'll have two houses free and clear or rent the other just long enough to pay a damn nice profit when you sell it.

Renting is still good for those that are going to be in the area for say just two or three years. Primarily military or those who's jobs require them to be here only two or three years. Even if you're military (ie. Navy) the likelihood you could stay in Norfolk, VA are are pretty decent depending upon your job/designator.

But yeah, long story short. Don't throw your money away, make your money work for you, don't work for your money (not ALL the time anyway).

 

Well mine is a rent w/ option to buy. So therefore my rent for the year he said, would go towards the house if I opted to buy. I'm not buying it though.
