alignments
Bert's +3.14159265.
Had my car aligned there and it was great. Then something happened about 2 weeks later and it was all whacked out again. I don't get it. Car will *not* stay aligned long and I do avoid bumps and holes like crazy. Pisses me off because I can't figure it out.

Just took my car to Larry's Alignment off of Battlefield Blvd. It's a basic shop, three bays, I think I saw one lift, and they don't use a computer for alignments (which means you don't get a printout or anything like that). When I called to make an appointment, the lady on the phone said they have a pit so they can do lifted trucks, but also lets them do lowered cars. The guy took about 45 minutes and test drove my car about 4 times. When he was done he said he adjusted the toe front and rear, but on the ticket also wrote that he adjusted the camber front and rear
which is odd because I have no camber kits and the only thing you can adjust is the toe. Anyhow, the car tracks straight now and isn't as loose feeling. Cost was $120 for the front and rear, which was a little more than I expected. Then again, I never asked how much it would be and there's no price chart on the wall or anything like that. I'm just glad I was able to get it done. The guy at Merchant's Tire off of Indian River recommended this place since they couldn't get my car on the rack (He also recommended Mizelle's in Norfolk).
Other places I tried:
Merchant's off of Holland Road - had my car aligned there before when I had coilovers, but it was also little higher. I figured I would try them again. Their machine broke while I was waiting.
Sears at Pembroke- emphatically said "Nope" when I asked if they could do lowered cars. Recommended Bert's
Firestone off of Fordham - said if Merchant's couldn't get it on their rack then he would probably have the same problem. Recommended the one at Military Circle because it has extendable ramps. Called that one, guy said that if he could get it on the rack he could probably adjust the toe only. I told him that the toe is the only thing adjustable anyway, he didn't sound like he wanted to do it regardless.
I didn't try Tread Quarters, even though I had my old car aligned there. Up in MD where I'm living now, there's a place called Mr. Tire which is basically the same thing. They tried to rip me off on an inspection and when I sent a complaint to the corporate office I never heard anything back. Needless to say I'm never going to any Mr. Tire or Tread Quarters again.

$120.00 for an alignment without a computer readout is R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D. Go to the Merchant's tire on Laskin Rd. Ask to talk to Pat. He drives the slammed VR6 Jetta. Just get him to do it on the side for $50.00 (which he will). Coming from a former alignment technician, $120.00 would get you an alignment and one free alignment every six months for the next three years at merchants tire (not getting a hookup). If you went to Holland and they said they couldn't do lowered cars, they lied to you (or they're lacking REAL technicians). I worked there for 4 months when all of their employees were fired for fraud and I did lowered vehicle alignments all the time. And if this shop everyone's speaking of doesn't use a computer to calculate the alignment, I'd seriously question the accuracy. Eyeballing it and running string from wheel to wheel will only get you so close. Anyways, I'm just annoyed that companies charge so much for such a simple service. A 4-wheel alignment on a jacked up F150 takes no more than 30 minutes. 15 mins to set the machine up and calibrate it, 15 mins to actually make the adjustments... My 2 cents...
