how special is this thing? can't get it matched up anywhere at a hardware shop?

It could get matched up most likely, but the grade/durability of the metal that the hardware store bolt is made of won't come close to matching the grade that a DOT approved brake part is made of.

Basically, in the short run, problem solved. In the long run, the part wouldn't hold up.

just got some at napa for $14.99each, came with 2 bolts and 2 pins. got lucky today, there was only 1kit left. thanks again for all the help
