Where can i find scrap granite near Virginia Tech?? (skateboard content)
I am looking to get a slab of granite to make a ledge to skateboard on. I have had friends in NOVA go to kitchen/cabinet places and ask for extra slabs that were going to be thrown away but i can't seem to find any places in the new river valley area. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction or maybe you just got your countertops done and have some spare.
anyways, i am looking for something about 24"w x 48"L or longer. something like this.....
or this...
I wouldnt need the supporting blocks... just the table top. I can just use cinderblocks and liquid nails for support.

yeah, the guys that did my moms countertops took the piece back that i wanted which really screwed me last week. i am really looking for something close to the dimensions of the first picture.. the second one is just a reference.

The stuff sells for around $70 - $120 per square foot, nobody is going to give you a piece that big for free.
Silly question, but whats the advantage of skating granite?

I can pay for the piece..i should have put that in the OP. i just dont wanna pay retail when i have heard of people getting free pieces. I might just wait till i go back up to NOVA because there is a place near my house that always has a bunch of left over pieces from jobs. Its just so nice out and i wanna skate something now!
granite just holds up really were and slides really really smooth. that why you see so many "capped" ledges in DC and cities.. Skaters love granite ledges but it really screws them up over time and ruins the landscape. That why i wouuld rather just have my own and not have to worry about getting hassled by cops or security.

Try Valley Liquidators here in Roanoke.Their prices are better than average if you have to buy it outright, and they also deal in seconds and blemishes,so you may find a good deal.
BTW-there are some really nice granite ledges in downtown Roanoke you may want to visit if you come up here. They're usually a bust pretty quickly, but really nice while it lasts.
