Most of it was with in design being offered for free with illustrator and photoshop coupled with adobe's continued updates and fixes over time vs having quark crash randomly no updates and costing a fortune.

I've been using Quark since version 3. Now using 8. Never had it crash once.

I've heard rumors of people having problems with it running on a PC, but I've never done that, so I don't know...
