I own a miata and so does a bud of mine. We have put 2 tops on his car more than 10 times, and I'm also a mechanic. If you can come to richmond we will do it for cheap, tonight if possible.

Get in touch with B Series Turbo...He's a professional mechanic as well as a Miata owner.Not sure if he's looking for any side work right now,but he's certainly more than capable of doing it.

Thanks for the replies guys, this is a pretty sweet community. Turns out that liquid stitch is an excellent product and has patched the tear in my top pretty well, so I don't need this done immediately.

Sometime in June I'll probably be looking to get this done.

John6363 - I don't mind driving out to Richmond when I get the new top, if a miata owner is the one doing the work What's a rate you'd be happy with?

If you have put 2 tops on, 10 times, sounds like you are doing it wrong. Just because you live in Mechanicsville, doesn't make you a mechanic.

I live in harrisonburg, and know a couple awesome techs, but I'm not sure what's involved with putting on a top. Is this more of an uhpolstry type deal, or mechanical? I have a good friend that's great who would do it for you anytime if it's mechanical.

Mechanical. It's not "knowledge" mechanical, its "patience" mechanical - which I have none of. If you put it on wrong and it stresses parts of the top it will rip and cost you another $500 top.

I know very few mechanically inclined convertible owners that want to do it themselves.

Maybe he was taking the soft top off and putting on a hard top for the track or something. Idk.
