Default To my friends in Roanoke, here is my new setup and dyno!

After a long wait, I finally got my car dyno tuned yesterday. I didn't make the power I expected, but none the less I am happy and the car runs great and feels very powerful. The dynoing was done on a dynojet dynamometer (model# 248C) at AEBS on Miramar Rd. in San Diego, CA and was tuned by Aries, who did a great job on the tuning part.(He really knows his shit).

For those who do not know me, I am running an allmotor B18b in a 92 Civic Si HB. The graph setup will be listed at the bottom of this post. To those who have keep track of my progress know that I have had a few problems; one: running rich as hell, and two: an oil leak that has been driving me nuts. Well I knew the fuel aspect would be fixed upon tuning, but after replacing the oil pan gasket I thought the leak had stopped and had not had any problems for a few days. Just as my luck has it though on the morning of the dyno I sprung another oil leak on the way there. None the less I was still able to dyno. So we strapped the car down and adjusted the ignition timing since it was retarded all the way(It would barely run at stock timing).

So here we go run #1 of 18 total runs, and I put down 140.6 whp and 116.3 ft-lbs. of torque. I was like WTF :crook: ! Thats way too low I thought, but we were just getting started. So some adjusts were made to the fuel to lean it out on the low end and the fuel pressure was raised and before I knew it we were up to 160 whp by run #6. Now came time to play with the cam gears, and though Aries tried everything I only gained 4whp by advancing the Intake cam +2.5 DEG and advancing the Exhaust cam +2.0 DEG; which now put me at 164 whp. Now we are back to tuning fuel and adjusting timing to squeeze out as much as possible. So now after 16 runs on the dyno I am up to 169.6 whp and 131.9 ft-lbs. tq. After realizing this is about as much as we are going to get out of this motor without a lil more head work and a better fuel management system(like Hondata instead of my SAFC-II), Aries and Doug come up with one last idea to try and make power. Well now we are at the end, dynorun #18 and here are the final numbers:

170.3 WHP, 135.4 ft-lbs. TQ

The Dyno Sheet:

Run #18: 170.3 WHP, 135.4 ft-lbs. TQ
Run #16: 169.6 WHP, 131.9 ft-lbs. TQ
Run #01: 141.6 WHP, 116.3 ft-lbs. TQ

The Setup:
1992 Civic Si HB
B18A Block/ B18B Head
-Mild PnP
-Crower 404 w/ JG Cam Gears
-Crower Valvesprings
-Ferrea SS Valves
-Cometic Head Gasket
-Skunk2 IM
-64mm TB
-Modified Iceman intake
-JDM ITR 4-1 header w/ 2.5" collector
-No Cat
-2.5" custom piping and exhaust
-P30 B16 Pistons
-Stock Rods
-GSR Tranny w/ LSD
-Exedy Flywheel
-Clutch Specialties 6-puck clutch
-SAFC2
-Chipped P75

After everything is said and done and drove the car, I am throughly happy as the car feels a hell of a lot faster. From the first run to the last run, 30 whp was gained and should make ppl realize how important tuning is!

Big thanks to Aries for an excellent job on the tuning aspect and to AEBS for use of the dyno. Also thanks to Doug who was there to help and witness the whole ordeal; and thanks to Gabe at JDM Concepts for introducing me to Aries.

Thoughts and comments please.

It does provide a great demonstration of how important good tuning is, but it leaves me wondering how people do N/A 4cyl project cars. You have a huge shopping list of parts that simply don't equate too much HP/TQ when compared to what can me accomplished with a nice hair dryer.

I'm not knocking what you have done, those numbers in a light HB would be nice and if it's what you want to do then more power to you.

Just my .2

srt4hokie,

I like turbo, but I love allmotor far much more and to me its not all about drag racing, I love autocross and roadcourse. Like I said turbos are cool, but you cant beat the sound of big cams(lumpy ).
