Bicyclist dies on 460
That's crazy. Although, I'd say if it were me, I'd take it as a good reason to ride less and drive more. Most drivers around here are idiots, I wouldn't ride a bike in areas where a lot of drivers are... I'd go way outside the city to reduce risks.
I know going out that drivers are idiots. I ride for many reasons - less gas money, fitness, freedom, etc. I ride my bike to work and it takes me 20 minutes. It takes me 15 by car. Once the new greenway is done, I should actually be able to ride to work quicker than driving. I'd love to be without a car at all, but while I still have to take my kids places that isn't going to happen.
terrible situation... and +1 on the helmet thing.
and as far as riding bikes, i rode from town center to my house in 5 minutes.. it takes me at least 10 to drive there. and if you rode you would be amazed about how retarded people are when there are bikes around (at least here in va beach) constantly getting yelled at to ride on the sidewalk and people try to get as close as possible to you as well as try to swoop around you.
i wonder if the guy actually ran the stop sign

I remember this guy, my brother was good friends with him in highschool. He came over my house a few times and even drew a picture of me. He was a pretty cool dude, but it sucks for that to happen to him especially since he was getting his life back together.

But, "serious" cyclists do it too. I had to stop riding on one of the group rides here in town because the guys were acting like assholes, running stop signs, yelling at cars, not stopping at red lights, etc. I'm always going on and on about how we have the same right to be on the road that cars do and we should be treated the same. When we start acting like we're above the law or something, it makes car drivers even more angry with us, and that's not something I want to contribute to.
