Yes it has IRS but anyone really doing any level of drag racing last I checked is dropping the IRS out for a straight 8.8 or 9 rear. The IRS isn't bad by any means but when you really start throwing power out in 1st and 2nd say high to burnout

You're wrong. Just stop while you're ahead. I've driven G8s and Cobras. 2 totally different beasts.
Actually it is easily possible that he is given some simple mods. Chances are if it were same driver he'd eat you alive given the simple mods. Pully, intake, exhaust, and some tires that will grip.
