TSCC autocross school/Novice Cone Clinic 5/19/12

TSCC will be holding an autocross schoool (Novice Cone Clinic) the Saturday (May 19th), before our third event of the 2012 season at the Pungo Airfield.

Students will work with local hotshoe instructors to learn increased car control and high-precision high-performance driving in a safe controlled environment. We will setup 3 elements to work with you on proper car placement, a quick break for lunch, then combine them to create a more typical autocross course for the afternoon to challenge your new learned skills.

$60 per student.

Registration is open: http://www.tidewatersportscarclub.co...pper&Itemid=57

That`s pretty cool, to bad my car is in 3.8 million pieces and scattered across 3 garages.

That is unfortunate! Always best to use your own car when first learning, but seat time in a borrowed car is valuable at increasing your skills, too. We shouldn't have any problems accommodating 2-driver cars if you can convince a friend to let you co-drive with them :)

Still spots available! If you plan on coming, please sign up. It's OK if you decide spontaneously to come saturday morning, I don't think we'll turn anyone away, but it will really help us line up the right # of instructors if we have a good count in advance.

I highly recommend everyone coming to the cone clinic bring a tire gauge, chalk, sunscreen, and a cooler full of drinks. You'll go through way more gas than a normal autocross because you'll be driving so much. I usually burn through about a quarter tank in a cone clinic (24mpg highway, 18mph city, 4mpg autocross). Little red barn is right down the road if you need to run out for a few minutes to add a little more.

The tire gauge is important because this is a very good opportunity for you to fine-tune your tire pressures. Since you'll be doing a lot of runs back to back, your tires are very likely going to see some psi gain from heat expansions, and you'll want to be able to hop out of your car and bleed air in between runs. Since it's rare that two tire gauges read identical, it's best to pick one and stick with it- really doesn't matter if it's "actually" 33 or 35psi so long as you know when your gauge reads ##psi, you know you're good. The chalk is to chalk the corners of your tires to help see how far you're rolling; all you really need is a tiny stub, so don't make a special trip to buy a pack, but grab a piece if you have it handy. I have kids, so I always have some around and try to keep a couple stubs in my ashtray.
