Re: TSCC Autocross at ACU-4 on August 16th, 2009

Big schedule changes for this event! TSCC is moving back to a single 4-heat day starting Aug 16th, there will no longer be separate morning/afternoon sessions. Tech for all heats closes at 9:15, driver's meeting at 9:30, first car off at 10:00. EVERYONE MUST GET THERE AND TECHED BY 9:15! If you get there late, make sure to bring bribes for the registration and tech guys ;) If you miss the driver's meeting, you'll have to spectate.

Novices: TSCC is making a number of other changes to make racing a lot more novice-friendly, so if you've been thinking about autocross (or have friends that may be) but were too intimidated, come on out! There will be a novice meeting/walk-through at 8:45 for all novices; it will either be at the TSCC trailer or at the start line (green cones/green flag). There will also, for the first time, be experienced drivers assigned to help novices, to ride along with you, etc, and novices will be encouraged to ride along with experienced drivers :D I don't know of anyone in the club who wouldn't bend over backwards to help you out, so just ask. BTW, you'll know the experienced drivers- they're the ones with magnetic numbers and racing tires. You can look on the registration list before the race and see if anyone has a similar car to yours, too.

Just make sure everyone, including spectators, is on the base access list or they're not getting in. It's very easy to do; the link to get on the TSCC access list is on the TSCC website. The list goes to the base on Wednesday before the race, so you have to do this aheaed of time. (Exception is only those with CAC badges and stickered vehicles, but if you're like me, you'll repeatedly forget to bring your badge on race-day, so add yourself to the access list anyway. White CAC/gov can escort others onto the base, green/contractors cannot.) So, if you register late, better sweet-talk someone with a white CAC to escort you on.

One quick note: even if you registered/paid online, you still have to register with the club when you arrive. Registration is in the small building by the control tower just as you enter the fenced-in area where we race. (This is also where the bathrooms are.) They'll give you a card that you'll take to tech. You won't get through tech without your registration card or your # on the side of your car. There's tape in tech to add your # if you need it.

Schedule

7:00 Gates Open
7:30 – 9:15 Registration
7:30 – 9:15 Tech
8:45 Novice Meeting/Course Walk at Start Line
9:30 MANDATORY Driver's Meeting at TSCC trailer
10:00 First Car Off

***There will be a short break between the 2nd and 3rd heat for an additional course walk***

The event will take place RAIN OR SHINE. In the event of severe weather, a decision will be made at the driver’s meeting to determine whether or not we will be running. If the decision is made to cancel the event earlier than that, you will be contacted by email.

Dual driver cars - Try to make sure that your co-driver is signed up for a different heat if possible. If this is not possible, we will stagger your runs during the heat, so you have time to change drivers.

Workers
The work schedule will be as follows:
Heat 1 drivers will work Heat 3

Heat 2 drivers will work Heat 4

Heat 3 drivers will work Heat 1

Heat 4 drivers will work Heat 2

Workers will meet with the Chief of Workers (COW) at a designated location approximately 15 minutes prior to the heat they will be working. The COW will then assign your work position.

Workers will change out on the fly. So if you are working heat 3, you will need to be ready to head out onto course the minute the last car in heat 2 crosses the finish line.
All entrants are REQUIRED to participate in the FOD walk down at the end of the event. The event OD will address exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

We will be keeping track of workers. Every person driving in the event MUST work the event. If you do not work the event, and have not notified the OD with a valid reason for not working, you will not be able to participate in the next event. If this circumstance should happen twice, you will be banned from participating in any more events this season. Nobody is getting paid to put on these events; everybody has to chip in to make it happen.

Tech Inspection

Numbers:
All cars will required to have their number displayed on each side of the car. Numbers must be at least 8in tall and must be a contrasting color to the color of the car.

Interior:
Make sure that you clean out all the unnecessary stuff that you have inside your car. Loose speakers, stuff hanging from the rear view mirror, wrappers and those wrenches that you have been carrying around need to be removed. Clean it as if you were selling it. Remove the floor mats. Grab a plastic grocery bag (or two) and put everything in. They also come in handy when “restuffing” the car at the end of the day…

Trunk:
Clean it out with the exception of stuff that you don’t mind leaving in your parking space at the event. For example; spare tire, tools, jack, lawn chair.

Car preparation:
Check that all your lug nuts (wheel bolts) are there and torque them to your owner’s manual specifications (if you have hubcaps leave them at home)
Check that all your tires are in good shape (real tread, not corded, etc…)
Please don’t put on a new coat of tire shine…
Make sure your brakes work well
Clean your windows
Make sure your battery is secured (Bungy Cords are not acceptable)

When you get to tech, please place your registration card under your driver’s side wiper.
If you need to put your number and class on your windshield, please do this while your car is being teched. We will provide window markers or shoe polish if you do not have any.
If you don’t know what class you’re in let us know before we tech your car.
If you are in the first 50 numbers, please go directly to grid after tech.

Tech WILL shut down for the Mandatory drivers meeting. The tech guys are drivers too and the meeting is for ALL drivers. They will open again as soon as the driver’s meeting is over. The tech lanes will close when the first car is on course.

i need guidance, so a ride along is more than welcome. maybe it will work out for me this time, seems like the cards have not fallen in place at the past couple of events to allow it to happen.

I wouldn't mind letting somene with experiance drive the car to see what I'm doing wrong. But then I miss out on a drive myself. So improvey time by or be greedy and just drive until I figure it it myself.

The rules actually prohibited ridealongs in many cases before, so this will be a real help for novices, I think.

I agree with you too on the schedule, but if the club was having trouble in the afternoon heats with not enough experienced workers, I can see why. I just don't like the fact that I run the first heat and have to be there all day, even for the FOD walk.
