are they allowed in auto-x? i thought i saw somewhere that they weren't...can someone clarify this

As far as I knew they were put on older rear wheel drive cars with rear leaf spring suspension to keep it from flexing. This would greatly reduce wheel hop, especially on a hard launch off the line.

I've seen panhard bars on cars at local autocrosses. I believe they are similar in function to traction bars. Think they would bump you in to Street Mod class.

thanks for the info...sounds like that's something i don't need to get at the moment if i'm just starting out...may get put in a class i'm not ready for

if he were to do one upgrade I'd say a good set of tires makes the most amount of difference for the least amount of money
but he oughta run the first time in his current set-up just to know where he stands
I think there is some sort of autocross event at Lagley for the new guys coming up soon, I hear it's pretty cheap too

NASA is having one that's free for newbies...but my car isn't stock..ie wheels, suspension, and swapped engine...so i'm reading the SCCA manual so i can see what class i fall into
