Hi everybody, I am new in this forum. I have a question to 240sx owners. I am planning to go drifting to pungo on june 29. Since my project ka24de-t 240sx still far from ending I bought 93 s13 5spd, its bone stock. What basic stuff do I need to do drifting?
what type of shocks(springs)?
what size tires are better (stock steel 15`s or i have couple sets of bold 17`s)?

etc...

And then.........................Clutch kick all day

When I went sliding I had my 17s. I had no problem at all. 15s would make it easier.

Im assuming you are going to transfer everything over to your other car when all is said and done? If so:

Stick with the 15's, cheaper to burn tires and the stock KA will turn them over easily.
I do not reccommend EVER sliding on bald tires, there's just no control with them once they get to a certain point.

I also say coilovers, but if you are set on shock/springs I like AGX/S-Tech's

And yes welding the diff is an option, and is for great on track, but if this car is also a daily I would leave the open diff and pick up a VLSD.

Welded is fine for daily if you are a man

Sliding on 17's is awesome, but 15's are easier on the wallet.

Get coilovers

Make sure the car is mechanically strong

and go to town.

i agree with spindrift, basically do this:
-coilovers (nothing baller but a good set of either apexi's or d2's)
-300zx diff (viscous lsd, i've heard that a welded diff can be way too harsh and has potential to break axles)
-make sure your fluids are good and def keep an eye on your temps
-personally i run 17's but jakes right, stock ka 15's will be easier to break loose.

I have lsd from 96 J30, but what is better for drifting lsd or welded diff( I have this car for fun only, no daily driving)?

What is the difference between coilovers and shock/spring setup. Is there any place locally where I can buy good set of coilovers for reasonable price?

And one more question, since I do not know condition of the clutch I will replace it anyway, what type do I need (I was thinking about stock oem nissan clutch kit)?

An LSD would be better, as it lets your car actually work properly rather then just forcing the wheels to be locked up. Since you have a VLSD it will be just fine. If you find it is wearing out/not locking up on you anymore you can save for a 2-way or weld an open diff.

Coilovers have hight adjustment as shocks and springs don't really lower the car a whole lot at all. You can go with D2s, Megans, GodSpeed, K-Sport, Stance, JIC, Zeal, Tein, HKS, etc. It is all the same crap relabled and sold at different prices for the most part. Unless you're talking about Ohlins, Bilstein, JRZ, Moton, or Koni it is probably going to be crappy so you might as well buy which ever is the cheapest. I'd personally recommend Koni Yellow shocks with Ground controls....your car will be ugly and high off the ground but the suspension well function properly and you'll be able to control the car better.

I used an Exedy OEM replacement clutch on my old KA. It held fine at the event (all the slipping problems I had were because of my improper clutch petal).

Welded diff, if done right, won't break axles with a stock motor.

and 17's aren't hard to break loose, lol. In fact, easier, a 215/45 on a 17x9
reacts like a fucking dream, so solid feeling in the rear.

Get an ACT Heavy duty unsprung 6 disc.
