Exclamation WRX technical issue- boost controller

i installed a boost controller on a WRX tonight and we ran into some problem. when he goes WOT the stock boost guage (in mPa..) is almost pegged out and its got hella power but when he throws it in third and goes WOT again the car jumps once and the check engine light comes on. the car doesnt run rough or anything or smoke but the cel stays on. i unplugged the negative battery terminal to reset the computer and put it back on and started it, no more CEL. he turned the boost down and then its the same all over again. whats the problem? and how the hell do i convert the mPa to PSI?

btw his mods are: cold air intake, turbo xs type h bov, borla catback and turbo xs high performance boost controller

im thinking of fuel cut, but i read that installing a MBC on a WRX without engine management is like asking for an engine rebuild. so i dunno, i guess we will put the stock BCS back on for now until we find out whats going on.

Im not a WRX expert but did you do the BOV and the controller at the same time???

I know turbofords see issues with after marked BOV is you dont take the nessasary steps to make sure it works before the cpu starts to read air so it doesnt flood the engine with gas when the BOV blows and falls on it face...

all the mods were way before the boost controller so i know its none of them. we took the wrx to auto zone and hooked it up to a machine that told us what the check engine light is on for. it said "wastegate pressure"

sounds like fuel cut to me.
wastegate pressure means something happened to the vacuum line between the turbo and wastegate solenoid to alter when it opens... i.e. the boost controller

so you're boosting too high.

millapascal and bar are basically the same measurement just different names and place value.

1 bar = 10,000 mPa

So, 14.7psi = 10,000 mPa

I'm sure you can determine the rest from there.

good resource to convert boost measurements.

I would not boost over 15.5 psi on a wrx without some sort of engine management. I have heard many a horror stories about wrx's and manual boost controllers. You've been warned. Do your research before modding a car. You are running two of the most potentially detrimental mods you can on that WRX. 1. cold air intake 2. manual boost controller

search
nasioc.com and/or wrxforum.com for the topics manual boost controller or cold air intake
