Default Wire Tuck Q's

So im half way threw my saab C900 build and was looking to farther clean up some things around the bay. Engine and tranny are out of the car, and the harness isnt big at all for the pre obd era. Anyway I take it the best time for a tuck is with everything removed correct? Im not looking for a full blown tuck just cleanning up the clutter mostly. Or should the shortblock be in and fastened down before the process so you dont need to "find" the wiring. Any insight would be good, also if reputable persons/business around fredericksburg. Im fully competent building engines not wiring. Thanks

A few general guidlines for wire tucks; (some being of opinion):
*Easiest with the engine out of the vehicle, arrange the engine harness onto the block while out with the ends where the harness will meet the firewall harnesses.
*Shielded wires should have a separate path for obvious interference reasons.
*Obviously soldering connections with heat shrink, not just tape and crimps.
*Shortening wires is ok if needed, try to route them to not lengthen any though.
*Try not to adjust the length of shielded wires at all.
*De-pin the connectors that wont fit if making the new hole in the firewall. don't just cut and reconnect.
*Label everything reguardless of simplicity you may find it to be
The rest is just how clean you want it and how much extra work you're willing to put into it. Then make plenty of different types of clips and straps etc to tie up the wires where needed if they are too close to heat sources etc. Most of these can be found easy at any auto parts store.
If you're looking to be a little cleaner even... try checking out computer stores for the loom they use in casing. Works great and gives it a much more modern look opposed to the standard loom commonly used.
