What size amp do I need??
I just bought a Type E Alpine 12'' sub and I need to know what size amp I should get for it. Only the amp to power this sub and this one only.
Here are the specs on it:
» 12" 4-ohm subwoofer
» Kevlar®-treated pulp woofer cone with Santoprene rubber surround
» dual oversized Nomex® spiders
» frequency response: 28-1,000 Hz
» power range: 50-250 watts RMS
» peak power: 750 watts RMS
» sensitivity: 89 dB
» top mount depth: 6-1/4"
Also, whats the difference between 2 ohm and 4 ohm?

Re: What size amp do I need??
Your best bet if you do not plan on upgrading your subs down the road would be to go with a 2 channel amp that will give you 200-300 watts of actual power bridged. If you plan on maybe upgrading your sub or adding a second one down the road you may want to look at a mono amp that will give you that same amount of power when shown a 4 ohm load. Basically a 2 ohm speaker will let twice as much current through a circuit than a 4 ohm speaker will. That is the difference between the two.

When you bridge a 2 channel amp you run the positive off of one channel to the positive side of the woofer, and the negative side of the woofer to the negative side of the other channel. Most amps will label it for you.
