Default what is this and is this bad??

EDIT: motor is out of an Integra. B18b1.

What is this thing? plugged in right under the distrubuter. there was also one on the backside of the motor.


Also, is the white stuff on the ends of the spark wires bad?? its on all four and it wipes right off with my finger.

The white stuff is either jizz, or dielectric grease. Its to prevent the boots from seizing.

White powder residue is from arcing in that location (top of the spark plug) which may have been caused if any crap was placed on top of the plugs. If it were just a few, I'd recommend checking the spark plug gap, but those look like worn out wires. Time to upgrade them.

The first one you circled is a sensor, not sure which because you didn't state of which type of vehicle you were taking a picture.

thanks, plan on replacin a lot of stuff before new motor goes in.

Yep. Looks like corona discharge is turning something into powder (like the minerals in water, etc).

Water temp gauge sensor.
The sensor on the backside of the engine is the oil pressure sender.
Arcing at the plugs can cause the powder residue.
