Default Timing Chain Skipped

my car died the other day 95 240... anyways i wasnt getting any reponse from the throttle, i turned it off thought i might be just the throttle cable, came back then it wouldnt start, so then i was stumped took it to a shop they took off the valve cover and he told me the timing chain had skipped a tooth, now he quoted me 1700 before he took the valve cover off for it, i dont think that sounds right for it to be off one tooth, how screwed up could it be, i thought about a new engine since theyre cheap but mine only has 89k on it, i dont wanna bother with one with twice the mileage. i havent talked to him since he pulled the valve cover off so maybe things will change.

well alot could have happened, probaly bent a valve or something like that, 1700 is alot IMO, i got a 95 motorset w/everything for 400 bucks w/80k miles so search and u can get a new ka for WAY less than 1700, if u can swap motors, save u lots, its not hard

If it needs head work the money can pile up quick. When I worked at the machine shop it wasn't uncomon to see over $1k for labor, parts and machine work.

On a side note: do you know if the new maxima engine bolts into a 350z? I got a friend that has a whole 2003 (might be '04, but I can't remember the year) swap. He wants like $1200 or something ridiculously low for it.
