state inspection question
I AM NOT ASKING FOR A STICKER... JUST INFORMATION
My girlfriend received a "fail" sticker on her sc400 today; the only reason given was "there are no bulbs in the fog lights".
They are factory, and when I removed the plastic lens there is no socket, no wiring... Nothing. Its just a plastic "lens".
I did a quick search on my blackberry and couldn't find anything about fog lights having to work. I was told by a friend that if there's no socket behind the lens for a bulb then there doesn't have to be one. But that doesn't sound right.
Can some body let me know the code number having to do with the fogs?
Thanks
~Josh

Re: state inspection question
That sounds weird. Never been failed for foglights not working before and my last POS had foglights that didn't work and passed twice at a stringent shop no less.

Re: state inspection question
IF THEY ARE THERE THEY HAVE TO WORK AND THEY HAVE TO GO OFF WHEN THE HIGHBEAMS ARE ON YOU CAN REMOVE THEM COMPLETELY AND IT WOULD PASS BUT YOUR FRIEND IS TALKING ABOUT REVERSE LIGHTS

Re: state inspection question
there's nothing behind the lens.... no "cup", no reflector, no wiring, no socket....
so can i just take off the lens and go up there and get the sticker?
any proof of this?

Re: state inspection question
If there is a light on the vehicle it must work. You can remove the foglight assembly in its entirety and it will pass.

Re: state inspection question
i personally would not fail it for that. but since it did fail, why dispute it? remove lens, get sticker, install lens. that easy. not to call you dumb, but it is too simple to get a sticker to even worry about why. and yes, by state law, if there is a lens, it has to illuminate!
